This was one of many experiments I produced during my second year at university. My main project was entirely CG so as part of my accompanying experimentation I wanted to develop my compositing skills. My brain immediately went to the idea of a short clip where the Tardis lands and I step out. This was something I had wanted to create for many years and now I had a really good opportunity to make it happen.
The next video is actually a piece I was asked to create by a friend of mine for his Doctor Who fan series. It's a very simple teaser showing the Tardis taking off however it allowed me to experiment with placing rotoscoped live action footage into a CG scene. This style of compositing turned out really well and opened up a whole new world of possibilities that I'm excited to explore.
At the time this project was made I was beginning to look into places I would like to work in future and one of these companies was Big Finish. This company produce various audio dramas and I've always loved the style of their trailers. So, I decided to try and replicate this style myself. I really enjoyed working on this project especially because I was mainly working with images so considering how to add movement to keep things interesting was a useful challenge.
As AI started to become more prominent in the world of art and VFX I felt that gaining some understanding of it's applications would be useful moving forwards. In this video I used Photoshops generative AI to alter live action footage on one single frame and then track these alterations onto the footage inside After Effects. This taught me a lot about motion tracking but also ways that AI can be used while not sacrificing ones own artistic contributions.
