For my final project while studying at Peterborough Regional College I decided to make a music video. I wanted to make something really simple and fun which gave me lots of room to experiment. I had a really clear idea for the overall vibe of this piece however I didn't expect just how many important skills I would develop. Most notable for me was my ability to direct. As this was my project I had to lead the team of people I had helping me and during that time I discovered that being in the position of a creative director actually felt really natural.
Yet another project from my time at college. While still on the topic of music, this project was the first and only documentary I have ever made. The brief was to create a film exploring culture in whatever shape or form we chose. I decided to investigate how music streaming services have impacted music subcultures. This project was really varied and I enjoyed everything about it from interviewing the public to the longer interviews with specific individuals and as a finished piece I think it explores the subject in a substantial amount of detail.
3 years ago I had the opportunity to spend a day working as a production assistant for an interview with a Veteran named Jen Price. The interview was about her time in service and a series of challenges she was doing to raise money for the Veterans Foundation. I operated the B camera during the interviews, shot some of the B roll and generally helped with setting up kit throughout the day. I really enjoyed the degree to which I was allowed to contribute. I suggested multiple shots to get for B roll which made their way into the final film and because of the trust that the crew showed in me I felt really confident to get involved and film plenty of footage.
This project was actually commissioned by the secondary school I attended. The school was putting on a dance competition starring the teaching staff and they wanted some interviews filming along with footage of the event that they could use. During the filming of this, numerous school buildings where damaged by a hurricane and it seemed unlikely that the show would go on. However, the team pulled through and I found that there was a really compelling story about overcoming adversity here that I felt deserved to be told. So, after the event I took all the footage I had gathered and put together this short film for the school.
This final video isn't a finished project like the others. Instead, this is more of a collection of test footage that I gathered in order to test out some new lenses. I felt like it really helped me get acquainted with the new kit and also improved my ability to shoot B roll going forward.
